Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the second installation off the Jurassic World trilogy and the fourth in the Jurassic franchise. We got the chance to book a screening that comes with a free poster for every purchase of two tickets. I was feeling divided with this promo. I was worried that this will not live up to the expectations of the viewers; hence, they are giving away some freebies. But then again, the seats were already filled and the cinema was jam-packed (maybe it’s the freebies).
Fallen Kingdom follows the story of what’s left from the theme
park at Isla Nublar. The dinosaurs are now running freely on the island where a
dormant volcano has become active. People are now making a resolve whether to
save them or let them go extinct again.
Plot-wise, I know I’ve already seen this before (well, that part where
the antagonist wants to take hold of the dinosaurs as part of a grander
scheme). The story has been used up time and again but what got me is the idea
of rescuing these dinos despite the destruction that may cause. Not all of them
are harmful though and it would be great for this generation to witness and
experience their presence (at least for the movie). I agree that it was trying
to be everything all at the same time but I guess it sets up the next
narrative. It may come as cliché and predictable but the treatment is amazing
which is a forgivable aspect all throughout.
In terms of character development, it lacks layers but some will
pique your interest while others will provide comedic relief and punchlines to
make it a pleasurable movie experience. The love story between Chris Pratt’s
character (Owen Grady) and Bryce Howard’s (Claire Dearing) is confusing but
it’s not the focal point of the story. I like the fact that Claire is not your
typical damsel in distress. She can stand and fight on her own. Overall, it did
not fail to stir a whirlwind of emotions. I was laughing at first then I found
myself in grief and then I was terrified and then I was hyped up all over
again.
Visually, it was able to maximize all the special effects needed,
even the sounds to make it appealing on the big screen. At the first Jurassic
World, a genetically-engineered Indominus Rex went on berserk. Now, they have
created an Indoraptor which is stronger and bigger. They have presented a whole
lot of new dinosaurs that the audience would surely enjoy and they are getting
more and more impressive. What’s next on the third chapter? That’s something
that we have yet to see.
We waited until the last roll and we couldn’t figure out the end
credit scene. Was it a glimpse of what’s to come, was it something else or was
it merely a scene to end the movie? In a nutshell, it is without doubt that
this is already part of pop culture and a sci-fi adventure that everyone loves
and I can’t wait for the final movie and see how they would drive it to
conclude this fascinating series to a close.
I'm giving this an 8/10. You may also want to read this review: https://geekatana.blogspot.com/2018/06/jurassic-world-fallen-kingdom-non.html
