Omocha: Japanese Toys Today

I was able to visit the Omocha exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila last May 6.

Toys hold a special place in my heart that’s why I took time to check it out. And why not? Toys appeal to me as they are meant to strengthen certain skills in kids and the creativity of those who remain kids at heart.

Cognitive – brain and one’s ability to think outside of the box (ex. puzzles, blocks); Motor or physical and movements (ex. jump ropes, stacking cups); sensory (musical instruments, crayons). In addition, toys help develop interpersonal skills when the experience is shared with another person.

The event is organized by The Japan Foundation that eagerly promotes international culture exchange programs.

Omocha is the Japanese term for toys and this exhibition ranges from the history of toys across generations to the latest ones infused with modern technologies.
