Art has always been a means to express thoughts and feelings through varied aesthetic media. There are a lot of existing forms already from traditional to contemporary pieces to a mixture of both in terms of styles and techniques. They may come in as paintings, sculptures and even as narratives. For the creators, it is using resources to convey ideas with the desire of getting reaction from people. For the audience, it is having sensory encounters that stir the imagination.
Art Fairs have become a source of visual installations that make
art less intimidating by making it accessible to all and by presenting a
familiar culture albeit wandering to obscure territories sometimes.
Here are five interesting projects that reflected our way of life.
Excavated
The pieces are made with layers of paint digging deep to reveal an
image underneath. We look for qualities beyond the surface. We see past through
the physical appearance and consider the person’s character more. We look at
situations from the inside out or sometimes from the outside in as we
appreciate the beauty within as well as the colorful accounts and accents
outside.
Remains
Modeled after “The Statue of Liberty”, chunks of broken objects
are wrapped in film strips. I would ike to think that it depicts censorship and
suppression of freedom which encompasses rights to think, speak and act. While we can easily voice out our opinion, it
comes with the responsibility of expressing the truth for the common good. We
exercise free will to choose whatever and however we want without jeopardizing
others with the things we say.
Manufacturer's
Advice: Content May Vary
Goods and merchandise are displayed exactly like supermarket
items. We cannot deny the fact that it is part of our routine to acquire and
spend for products and services. On a socioeconomic perspective, it covers the
process of production and consumption. This is also a call to patronize our own
and support local firms and initiatives. With this also comes the idea of
consumerism.
Mimefield
With the use of light tricks and reflection, fragments appear to
sink in a dark, infinite abyss. We stare into space fearing the unknown,
worrying about where and when it will end. We may feel stuck but there is a
tiny speck of hope in us that engulfs the shadows. It ignites our passion and
outshines all our doubts that we can achieve and realize our dreams.
Mistaken for
Wonders
The whole concept envisions a world with strange structures
emerging from the ground. It portrays our surroundings as imperfect. We
celebrate our best points and work on our inefficiencies. We learn from
mistakes and we recognize failure as necessary to grow. We acknowledge life’s
ups and downs, twists and turns.
And the good thing, these works are open to everyone’s
interpretation. These may have been part of previous exhibits but they still
prove relevant and meaningful today. Throughout history, art has sparked change
and has inspired us in one way or another. We continue on thriving and
progressing with our everyday experiences. We become mindful of the present and
we keep up with the changing times. We aim to be inclusive as we adapt and yes,
we try to make the world a little better through these creations.
