Salute to whoever came up with the idea of having an in-store coffee in retail shops. This concept has been acquired and applied by many brands.
Because after a long, tiring day of
shopping for clothes and fashion items like shoes, bags and accessories, shoppers
would just want to unwind, get some rest, and have some refreshments. This
much-needed break is of course a win-win for the shop as #1.) the obvious
additional source of income stream #2.) may generate increased retail sales as
people may decide to browse items after this respite.
There is actually another target market
segment that has been tapped – those who would just want to try and grab a bite
and some drinks; and while they’re at it, they will be enticed to look at the
displays while waiting which circles back to advantage #2 above.
I fall under the latter category
when I visited Folded&Hung’s store inside a local mall. Directly called
“f&h coffee”, I wanted to have my caffeine fix of the day and so I tried their
Iced Spanish Latte. It got my approval as it was creamy, had a balanced
sweetness where you can still get a rich, bold espresso taste. They have other
drinks and pastries that are reasonably priced too! After a quick online
research, it was launched last August 2025 in Greenhills, where it had all
begun.

While the staff members were
preparing my drink, I took a quick tour around the store. They have affordable
shirts and pants. If time and budget permit me, I would shop some in the
future.
This strategy has put stores afloat
as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs would put it that you have both food and
clothing under one roof.
So follow me as I discover more local and international brands that follow suit.
